A living archive of true human stories

The world is full of stories. One of them is yours.

The Colony of Z is a home for true stories from every corner of the earth. Told by the people who lived them. Kept for the people who come after.

How it works

From your heart
to the world

01

You tell it

Write or record your story, in any language. Big or small — if it stayed with you, it belongs here.

02

We take care of it

Your story is transcribed and gently checked. Nothing ever goes live without your approval.

03

The world hears it — today and tomorrow

Every story gets a voice, is rated by listeners, and is kept safe for future generations.

Your story matters

Tell your story now

  1. Start where it started — one place, one moment. Set the scene in a sentence or two.
  2. Tell it like you'd tell a friend. Your own words, your own language — don't polish it.
  3. End on what stayed with you — a detail, a feeling, a sentence you still remember.

Aim for 500–1,500 characters — that's a story of about one to two minutes when read aloud.

0 / ~1,500 characters

By sending, you agree your story may be shared publicly — always without your name or any personal details, unless you ask otherwise. You approve the final version before anything goes live.

Big or small — if it stayed with you, it counts. In any language, in your own words.

Stories are happening
right now

New true stories are already being told every day. Find them — and the people behind them — wherever you already are.

What is The Colony of Z

Everything ends with Z.

The alphabet ends with it. So does an era. So, one day, do all of us.

The Colony of Z is a time capsule of ordinary human life. Not headlines, not history books — the daily routines, small rituals and quiet moments that history usually forgets. How mornings smelled. What we sang. What made us laugh at the kitchen table.

We're building it so that people a hundred years from now can press play and hear how life really was — told by the ones who lived it.

A colony of stories.
Sealed with a Z.

Roadmap

Where the colony
is headed

Phase 0 — Done

The first thread is spun

The Colony of Z has launched. We're gathering the very first stories from people around the world and sharing them on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and X.

Phase 1

The colony opens

Send your story by text or voice message. And with your personal login, you get a space of your own — keep private stories there without sharing them with the world.

Phase 2

Every story finds its place

Categories for every kind of memory, ratings from listeners around the world, weekly curated collections — and every story told aloud as audio.

Phase 3

The colony in your pocket

The Colony of Z app for iOS and Android — carry the archive with you, record a story the moment it comes back to you.

Premium

Preserve it properly

For the stories that matter most — a little more care, a little more permanence.

Voice

In your own voice

With voice cloning, your story is preserved the way you told it — your laugh, your accent, your way of saying goodnight. Read a fairytale for grandchildren you may never meet.

Language

Every language, one click

Your story translated faithfully into other languages, so someone on the other side of the world — or a century from now — can hear it in their own.

Keeper

The keeper of your archive

Decide what the world hears and what stays sealed for your family alone. Your personal vault, shared on your terms, passed on when you choose.

Heirloom

The printed colony

Your stories set in print — a beautifully bound volume for the kitchen shelf, where the best stories have always lived.

Questions

Before you ask

No. Stories are shared with the world without any personalization — no name, no email, nothing that identifies you — unless you explicitly mention it in the story itself. And you always approve the final version before anything goes live.

Aim for 500–1,500 characters — roughly a one-to-two-minute story when read aloud. Shorter is fine too: sometimes three sentences hold a whole life.

Any language. We collect stories in every language on earth — and translate them into whichever language you'd like to read or hear them in. Your story is most true in the words it actually happened in; we make sure it travels.

Yes — that's coming in Phase 1. With your personal login you'll have a space of your own: keep stories there just for yourself or your family, sealed away from the world until you decide otherwise.
